4 Things About You That Are Absolutely TRUE!
It's our third day on the beautiful island of Jamaica (the land of my birth) and I must say, I miss it, big time! I'm sitting in the lobby of a Montego Bay resort with sand on my feet and several mixed drinks in my system, and it feels goooooood!
As many of my blogging homies know, I'm all about embracing the imbalance of working motherhood, entrepreneurship, managing a home, and nurturing my personal whims. I'm a bit of a flitter, and I tend to pay close attention to a thing for the brief time it has my attention, then move one when I'm no longer captivated by it. This is why the life of a writer/blogger/entrepreneur is a perfect fit for me; it's a series of projects that I can see through without them feeling like that yucky work stuff I used to do back when I was an employee. Nowadays, though I am always pitching something to someone, somewhere, I thoroughly enjoy my life and I only take on the projects that pique my interest. It sounds almost too good to be true, even as I write these words, but it is my reality, and I created it quite deliberately.
This particular lifestyle does not come without its share of risks and mental gymnastics, but it's the one I choose, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm not a religious person, but I am a person of faith, and I know God/Creator, and accept him/her in a variety of forms. I believe Creator rewards my faith with moments like today, and I use them in part, to remind you that I'm not the exclusive beneficiary of God's rewards. Let me tell you what I know...
I KNOW that leaving the country for a month, while still being able to sustain myself and my family (with the support of my hubby), is something that YOU can do if you get focused on living a life that FEELS good.
I KNOW that wanting is not enough, but that it's a start. If you take the steps from wanting to ASKING, then trust that Creator will lead you to the point of HAVING, BEING, and DOING, then you can become satisfied (and even fulfilled0 with your life.
I KNOW that I learn from the numerous women and men in my circle—some of whom are new friends, but offer so much in the way of inspiration—and that you too should surround yourself with people who have traits that inspire you to be/do better.
I KNOW that you possess a particular set of skills that no one else can do as well as you (and I mean NOONE)! If you can find it in yourself to focus on making those skills even better, and not beat yourself up for the stuff you don't know, then you can absolutely SOAR. #GottaRemindMyselfOfThisToo
I know these things because I'm in that process myself. I accept my life as it is; imperfect, interesting, fulfilling, emotional, and most of all DELIBERATELY CREATED TO KEEP ME ON THE PATH TO LIVING MY FULLEST VERSION OF SELF.

Thankful Tuesday! Blogalicious, here I come!!
Dear Blogalicious, I'm happy we're officially an item. Love, Akilah!
Mind you, I had refused to accept the reality that I wasn't officially attending this much-anticipated event! So much so, that I had planned to be in Miami that weekend anyway, and had resolved to meet up with as many of my blog crushes and homies as I could, one way or another.
I'd been trying since May to get sponsorship, (as evidenced by the snapshot of a part of my freakin excellent sponsor letter above ) and two opportunities stared me square in the face, shook my hand, then sucker punched me in the gut! #Whatevz!! Nonetheless, I was still going to Miami and was determined to get my pseudo-Blogalicious on this coming weekend!
Alas, the blog Goddesses saw fit to smile upon my humble....um...whatever, I got a TICKET - Wooh-hoo! *Channeling my inner "In the Heat of the Night" southern drawl* I tell you, hwhuuut, I bet' not EVAH see @RosesDaughter in the street, because I will surely back up 10 feet to give myself enough space to bum rush her and hug her for 17 minutes and 32 seconds, straight! She won the ticket over at this MBB giveaway, and then, after realizing she wouldn't be able to make travel arrangements in time, and seeing from my comment that I was going to be in Miami that weekend anyway, emailed me to give me her ticket!
WHO DOES THAT? Uh, @RosesDaughter does, and this is precisely why she deserves the 17 minute, 32 second bum rush, and nothing less!
I'm telling you, the whole Ask-and-Ye-Shall-Receive bit is not hype! All jokes aside, I've been the beneficiary of the rewards that accompany faith far too many times to call it coincidence. My whole "Define, Design, and Live your fullest version of Self" philosophy is based heavily on the idea of designing your own life course, complete with the habit of ASKING for what you want, and EXPECTING to receive it. The conditions (the how and when) are none of my business, because my job is to be patient (which is a challenge, at times) and faithful in the knowing that I will RECEIVE. And I do. #Godismyhomie
So, if you're going to Blogalicious this weekend, don't be givin' me the side eye if I act extra crunk (do none-ATLiens know what that means?) this weekend. I'm basking in the answering of my ASK, and it's a great reason to celebrate!
Thanks, @RosesDaughter -- you are all kindsa AWESOME! Okay, back to packing...
